In 2002, when a DVD Writer was first launched, it used to cost over $800. That gradgually reduced to $400 and when it came to about $150, people started buying it in mass. The price kept on crashing and came to $50 and was staying in that price range for some time. Now, Since Blu Ray needs to make an entry, the DVD Writers are making way for that, and the price has now fallen below the $20 mark in the retail markets, Imagine at what cost it would be rolling out from the factories.

Blu Ray is expect to retain its high costs for some time. After 10 years, you will start seeing Blu Ray discs being sold in platforms.

People did expect that Divx would cause a boom, and they invested money in advance in getting a dvix player, but it just went ahead to become a popular computer video format and didnt really do much in the disc market.
