Not much into gaming

I have never been able to play games much. What’s the point? You buy a console with a joystick thats got buttons and you press them and a car moves, guns fire and so on. But I thought about it this way about 10 years ago, when the 8 bit games were popular.

I am older now, and the games I now play are with money. The points are the numbers in my bank account. But when I visited a store recently, i took a demo of a ps3, and was surprised to see that after all of these years that I have not played a single game, I found this really amusing. it was a car game, and I drive reasonably well ofcourse, and I was really amused driving that car at such a speed.

The gaming console industry has really advanced. And PS3 really rocks.

Untill about 10 years ago, Compact Flashes for cameras usually meant the lighting device that flashes and produces an enormous amount of light for a period that is less than a second to help the film cameras expose properly and capture good pictures. But today in the age of Digital cameras, where people have completely stopped buying rolls of films to expose them and get them developed at dark rooms and printed on photo papers and are using digital cameras instead where there is no use for the silver bromide chemical at all, use the term compact flash when they want to refer to the flash memory stick which would store the digital photos. Times have changed a lot. I wonder if someone invents a time machine and goes back in time would ever be able to adopt himself to the past.

If I get any comments to my blog posts, I get them only from my brother. What ever I get from others, I either mark it as spam, or delete them. Since my blog is still a PR2 blog, not may people are really coming forward to give some quality comments. Maybe, my posts arent up to the mark yet. I need to develop my blogging skills I guess.

I was just going thru thespam messages right now, and found a spam comment posted by some bot. It said it was from Bill Gates, and the email address that was mentioned was billy@msn.com

The text in the comment was filled with ascii chareters and i couldnt understand a thing. But billy@msn.com brought a small smile on my face.

Why is BSNL popular?

BSNL, known as DoT previously, is the oldest telephone service provider. About 10 years ago the government decided to privatize all telecommunications, and thats when new companies like touchtel came up. Touchtel provided DSL way back and provided excellent services in the metros. Everywehre eles there was only BSNL or VSNL dial up connection.

About 4 years ago BSNL launched its broadband service, and it gave boradband access to rurla india where no one could think of the private broadband connections. It has a good back bone of telephone lines drawn all over the country, and that line has been used for broadband too, and therefore, BSNL did not have much to invest into, and so at a cheap cost they set up the broadband service.

The money that was used to lay these lines all over India was by charging people heavily for local and std calls. About 10 years ago, the call rates are not what we see today. It will cost you upto Rs 50 a minute if you wish to call someone who is just about 30 or 40 kilometers away from you. Now you can call all over India for a rupee a minute.

Well, when they had less investment to make, why don’t they provide a better service? BSNLs broadband is only good enough for homes where people login to check emails and waste bandwidth watching movies and stuff. Bloggers like me can do quite well with it, but not as a software guy. No, BSNL is not a good connection for a software company.

I have been downloading things from the internet for several years now, and the only internet connection that I would say is up to the mark is Airtel Broadband. I have endorsed them for quite some time now, as the connection never goes down. I have been running the internet for days and months together without stop downloading and uploading torrents of data, and now I miss airtel badly. Be it a search for crib bedding , or to download a 4 dvd software , that has been the best always.

BSNL is popular just among home users, and it wins so many award just because it serves users who dont really know how an internet connection should be, how consistent it should be in serving data and stuff. In my opinion it just sucks.

Updated WordPress

For some reason, I was unable to update wordpress all these days for some reason from Fantastico. For those of youhwo dont know, fantastico is a software that comes with cpanel. For those of you who dont know what cpanel is, it is a web hosting control panel that can be installed on linux servers.

Today, I just downloaded the latest version of wordpress and just uploaded the fiels and overwrote all the existing files on my blog, and wa-la, it got updated. Now, I have got tag clouds, and most of my plugins are now saying that there are updates that are available. Now I need to download them one by one, extract and upload them to have them updated.

WordPress and its plugin makers should really think of some way to dynamically update any software that we install on our webspace. I know, having been a web server administrator for nearly 4 years, that that is violation of security, but instead of having to download them one by one, we could give some downloa dpersmissions momentarily for the hosting so that the files can be updated. I dont think when I would find time to have the plugins updated.

And by the way, I have a huge collection of wordpress themes, if anyone wants it, just leave me a comment, and i will give you the torrent.
