Updated WordPress

For some reason, I was unable to update wordpress all these days for some reason from Fantastico. For those of youhwo dont know, fantastico is a software that comes with cpanel. For those of you who dont know what cpanel is, it is a web hosting control panel that can be installed on linux servers.

Today, I just downloaded the latest version of wordpress and just uploaded the fiels and overwrote all the existing files on my blog, and wa-la, it got updated. Now, I have got tag clouds, and most of my plugins are now saying that there are updates that are available. Now I need to download them one by one, extract and upload them to have them updated.

WordPress and its plugin makers should really think of some way to dynamically update any software that we install on our webspace. I know, having been a web server administrator for nearly 4 years, that that is violation of security, but instead of having to download them one by one, we could give some downloa dpersmissions momentarily for the hosting so that the files can be updated. I dont think when I would find time to have the plugins updated.

And by the way, I have a huge collection of wordpress themes, if anyone wants it, just leave me a comment, and i will give you the torrent.

Computer Memory

Raising usage of applications in computers result in an increase in demand for computer memory, processing power, and to run them all, you require electric power.

About 10 years ago, computers with monochrome crt displays used to suck in less than 100 watts of power, while these days, even with the most sophisticated LCD displays, the CPUs are sucking in not less than 600 watts of power, to drive the processor, memory and hard drives.

Asset Management

Ref my fantasy article earlier. What would I do if I earned $1.25 Million from the popular game show? I would invest it in a bank I said, as a fixed deposit, which would earn me about 10% interest per annum. I wouldnt go for investing it elsewhere on my own. I know nothing about that area, and I wouldnt risk my money just like that, and end up loosing it, unless someone who is really experienced can help me out.

Northern Trust is a premier provider of banking, asset management and asset servicing to affluent families and individuals and leading institutions worldwide. This institution helps people worldwide in helping their money grow, retirement planning, and you get to plug up a personal relationship with your relationship manager of the bank.

Plug up? Well, tell the manager all about your personal commitments, earnings, sources of incomes, the money that has been locked, the money that has been lying sluggishly, and the money that is hyper actively producing returns.

The more money you have the more difficult it is for you to manage your money. And you need a good asset management company and be plugged up with a personal relationship with a good relationship manager with a good investment management services provider to make sure that your money is being taken good care of.

The Wi-Fi Router

The wifi router is a truly fascinating device. I have been using wifi enabled laptops only for the past 2 years, and I have a wifi router at home only for about the past 1 year now. Too bad I wasted a lot of time without the comfort of a wifi.

I hate laptops anyway. They heat up your lap, heats up your palm, and at times, can be very annoying when you shift your legs. Working wth a laptop on a desk is a real pain on your elbows. And working on it for hours together is a complete waste of everything.

The laptop does consume less power, thanks to the LCD screen and the compact design, powerloss is minimal. But it is portable.

Till I bought my first wifi router for my home I had to plug the laptop’s ethernet port to the modem or a switch if I wanted to browse something. That completely reduced my mobility to 0. And for a man like me, there is nothing to do with a computer device that is not connected to the internet. And if I have to work on something on the internet, and if I have to sit on a desk, I would rather be using a PC than a laptop.

The PCs at office and home that I sit on are usually with 17 Inch screens, thanks to my poor eye sight, I find more comfort in them. On my laptop, the current Compaq V6425T, bought around last september,  Im able to work comfortably with a resolution of 800×600, which was the most popular screen resolution 10 years ago, as the screen size is just 15.4 inches. I dont want to go for a 17 inch lappy since im sure it would be bulky, and anyways, I prefer teh PC. The only place that I find the laptop useful is at my apartment in Chennai where Im staying temporarily, hotel rooms while Im travelling, and at airport lounges.

Coming back to the point, the wifi router at home has really made my life easy I should say. I can take the laptop to bed, read, write and check mails till just before I go to bed, get up in the morning and check mails n stuff, and download things at night on my bed when Im sleeping.

I use a Netgear Wifi Router at home, and a linksys at Office. Netgear is better in my opinion since Linksys provides only an access point and needs to be connected to a switch or a router while Netgear has a built in router and acts as a seperate network zone inside any network, and it works on dhcp, meaning you can connect over 255 pcs to this router either thru wire or thru wifi.
