The Media started during the Renaissance in Europe. Right when the mechanical typeset was discovered. An information can be passed on to huge masses of people. People like Charles Dickens and Jane Austin capitalized on that by writing great books. Without the media they would have been nowhere.

The Radio was discovered in the mid 1800s and people didn’t have to read anymore. And in the early 1900s, there was TV. In the 1990s we got the internet, which we could use to search for anything we want. Free flow of information on demand, when you want it where you want it. It was texts initially, now we have got podcasts. Well, thats what podworks is about.

Now the size of the computer has been reduced to fit in your hand. And now its most popularly called a Phone. And, the Iphone is the best among all that. And I own one of those. An 8GB iPhone 3G that transfers data faster than my broadband connection used to do 4 years ago.

There are so many things that you can do with the iPhone. Its not just for talking. The apps that are available for the iPhone are simply great, and are not available on the regular PDAs or smart phones. I am a windows hater, and though iPhone doesn’t run linux, it is atleast unix based.

And just like in linux, you get an app for anything you need for iphone. I can’t list them out, the list is infinite. For example, I have been looking for an apartment at Texas to run my new home cum office for my friend who is there to handle our new venture for some time now. Something bigger and better than our current place, but in the same locality. I googled, yahooed and MSNed. Nothing happened. But I found this one result buried deep down in one of the searches. It was iphone apartment app.

I decided to give it a try, as it said it uses GPS to find you apartments. Wow. I downloaded the app, and asked my friend to do it too. He started off the app, and located a very decent place in the map, thanks to the GPS satellites, called the owner, went over, took some photos and sent it to me, which I approved instantly, and we have that place now. It was that simple. I am surprised how technology is evolving. A tiny app for iPhone is now doing what google isn’t being able to do.

You would do well keeping your support system in a completely isolated place. But if you are starting off small, and are keeping everything under one roof, including sales, and support, isolate sales from support. Give support most priority. Keep them on an isolated intercom circuit. Give them the best power backup. Have more than one internet connection for them, even if you have a best internet service provider’s connection in your region.

Install seperate local servers for the sales, billing and the support teams. Always keep them on seperate LAN connections on seperate internet connections. You wouldnt want your sales people to know which client is having problems, and your support to know how much sales is being done. Though support people may guess that from the number of new accounts that are bing created, it is best to keep them all isolated.

Provide seperate PCs for each of your staff. If you have 3 support guys, one working on each shift, give them an induvidual PC, 1 for each, and dont let them share a common PC. They should be able to access the details and everything that they need from a common server to which all support PCs are connected. There is no point in having more than 2 shifts for sales, so they might as well share PCs.

Though you are confident about your network installation, wires can get disconnected at any time. So it is always best to connect your PCs thru wifi. Atleast you will be able to switch to another ISP line immediately if you have problems in one.

Make sure that you get only a Split AC, that comes with a seperate outdoor unit, so that people can save themselves from the noise that the AC produces.

Seat your staff very close to a loo, so that they dont spend too much time wandering to the loo once in a while. Also, have an office attendent or two, who would bring refreshments directly to them, so that they dont have to take the excuse of walking to the coffee machine ever half hour.

If you have got loadshedding in your area, or if your area is a victim of a very frequent power blackout, it is best to go for a sinewave UPS, as running computers on Generators is not advisable. You could however install generators for the ACs and lights.

This should do, to start up a small scale office for providing web hosting services

Well, from a layman’s point of view, naturally it is a website that sells things which people could buy and pay for it online, and the goods would be delivered to your address. You get to choose stuff, put them in a shopping cart, checkout, pay, and sit and relax while the courier guys come and deliver it for you.

Well, thats what the people who shop think. But if you wnat to create a shopping site, you need to know a lot more than that. You need to install a shopping cart script on your hosting, which you need to integrate with the designs of your website, fill it up with theproducts that you want to sell, and then launch the site for the public to buy things.

Thankfully a good number of shopping carts are available for sale outthere. If you are an expert programmer, you could go for the free and opensource ones, but if you would like to be doing better off and concentrating on the sales of the products, then I would recommend that you go for the paid ones that come with a license and some support for the software, so that by mistake if something goes wrong, or if you need help in configuring the software, you will get help over phone or atleast over email and you dont have to depend on public forums for previous entries, or an answer for a newly posted entry.

People buy cars for many reasons. For some it might be a necessity, for some it might be a show off. Thats why you find cars that are available with a wide range of price tags. Tata from India has brought a car that just costs about $2500 roughly, and there are cars that we see on the road that cost $2.5 million easily.

People who can afford it, usually maintain their cars very well. Give it a wood dash, redo the upholstery, and maybe give it a good gril. There are experts in the industry such as wooddashexperts.com, who are creating a revolution in the custom grills industry. They have got Buick Grills, BMW Grills, Mercedes Grills, Chevy grille and a countless list of other grills for any car or suv thats there in the market.

The first conference I ever attended was the Podworks.in event at Chennai, thanks to my associate in Pondicherry who gave me the info that it was happening, and for his pleasant company during the event, conducted by the biggest monetizer of all times, Kiruba Shankar. Prior to that I have attended events, but this was the biggest gathering, about 200 people, that too with people like the creator of nautanki.tv, chinmayi, and a host of others. Though I was overwhelmed by the limitation of their knowledge in computers, I found out that they knew how to blog.

That was my start, and thats when I started blogging. I came home and tried to register myself with a few sites like blogger, wordpress etc, but I didnt like them much. A few days later, I registered a domain called ravisblog.com, and installed wordpress in it, thanks to God, for giving me Indyahozting, and my partners who invested in it.

Now I have a PR2 blog, which was actually PR3 before I was monetizing it, and am working on a few other blogs to bring them up in the PR scale.

Blogging has become as good as a 2nd career for me, and spending a few hours with it, I get paid about the same kind of money that Im making with the regular business I do.

If you need tips on how to make money, just sitting at home and blogging, without having to sell anything, or having to follow those stupid scams on the internet that make you pay them money for no results that you would get, just let me know, and I shall be more than happy to be of help.

And you would have watched people breathing with masks on their faces that is supposed to supply them with more oxygen than they could get from the atmosphere. The mask is cute, but where does the oxygen come from? In olden days, people used to store them in cylinders and release it to the maskthru a valve. But this is expensive, and filling oxygen in the cylinder is a big process.

Thats why there are portable oxygen concentrator, which takes oxygen from the air around us and makes it a concentrate and feeds it to the mask so that the patient can brethe easy. This is real good stuff.

Electricity is generated in very high voltages. Something to the tune of 440, 000 volts. There is a factor in all electrical equipment called as the (I^2)R or the IsquareR loss. When you square the amount of current that flows thru a conductor and multiply it with the resittance of the conductor, the result that you get is in Watts, and that is a loss.

So if a 1 ampere current flows thru a conductor having a resistance of 1 Ohm, the resultant loss will be 1 watt. So, when a power station is generating power in megawatts, and with the transmission lines so lengthy and with the total resistances over kilometres running into 10s of 100s of ohms, if a lot of current flows thru the cables, the loss could be considerable. Therefore to reduce the loss, the corss sectional area of the cable should be increased, which would result in increase in an investment. So the best way to do is is to generate and transmit the power in very high voltages, and reduce the current and the loss.

All alternators are fed into a common bus. And there is usually a state grid or a national grid for every country, which is a common line, and this makes sure that all phases are in sync and all the generators in the country work uniformly. The generator’s output is fed into 3 phase transformers, which feed the lines that carry the power to the sub stations located at the outskirts of the cities.
