Ubuntu Merchandize

I simply love the merchandize that is available for sale at canonical’s store. The wearables and the accessories. They have got a laptop bag for sale with the name ubuntu embossed on it, in which we can carry our laptops along with a lot of other things with pride.

Ubuntu Ogio Messenger Bag

There is a ruck sack which we can use to carry everything around, except perhaps a laptop. A laptop would fit into it, but it does not have the padding and stuff for holding a laptop in place.

Ubuntu Rucksack

A stress ball is available which you can squeeze when you are in stress., and a pen and a notepad and stickers.Ubuntu Ballpoint Pen Ubuntu Stress Ball  Ubuntu Stickers Ubuntu 1gb Flash Drive

I think that is a very cool collection. All shipments are made either from South Africa or from London.

But the prices are a little bit high. The 1 GB Pen Drive costs about $25, the laptop bag at about $107, though the rucksack is relatively cheaper however, costs only about $30.

These are fund raisning items ofcourse, but like opensource software, if we could get this for a low price, or with a very basic margin, it would have been great.

Why am I unable to get back to Windows

Windows Sucks. I have known this from the first time I installed Windows on my PC the very first time over 10 years ago.

Not that I had installed any other operating systems on a PC such as Mac or Linux, but that was something about Windows that I didnt like even at that time.

Linux installations wasnt that good at that time either. There was only redhat, and none of the hardware were supported. You had to get red had compatible hardware. It was fn to watch it install and boot however.  Some originality was there, unlike the stupid screens that say what you can do with windows when you install it.

About a year aog, when I installed ubuntu, that was the time that I really started to like computers. I really found out how good computers can be. Laptops battery started to last longer, PCs became less noisier and were relatively faster, and there was no need to defragment or install a virus scanner or worry about files getting infected or downloading an infected file. Even Wine doesnt get infected or spread viruses.

There is beryl, but ofcourse, at times I feel that the desktop and the task bar doesnt look as good as windows xp or vista, and is just as good as windws 98 or 2000 only. But a windows license is too much of price to pay. Who on earth would want to pay for bugs? And why do people go for windows and never turn to linux?

And vista is such a big flop, that it is having to be pre installed with PCs and Laptops. And it is n no way better than XP except that it requires more RAM to install.

I like the way Linux works, and I dont want to get back to windows. Stablity and security are the most basic things that ubuntu is giving my laptop. No one can get any data out of my laptop even if i loose it intentionally. Its not that I would loose it, because it is my horcrux. And for this one reason, even though I get drivers for new gadgets for devices like Webcams, cell phones, mp3 players and a whole lot of stuff, I wouldnt go back to windows, and I would promote it to people and make them write drivers for these gadgets adn have it submitted to the linux community rather than getting Bill Gates do and let him get rich.

Looking for a web designer

For one of my top priority projects, i have been looking for a web designer for quite some time now. Someone who would fit my requirements are not in free lancer sites. And most importantly, I didnt have the time to go on a hunt. I just wanted something like google where I can just enter keywords and get what I want.

Thats when I heard sbout spock.com an innovative new community website where everyone is listed and can be searched with tags. I just made a search for web designer, flash, seo, and i got a good list of results.

QuickPost

Check out the above thumbnail to find what I have got. I have chosen a couple and have finalized the terms and they have started working on my site already.

What I think is great about this site is that they dont advertise the induvidual, but it just looks like a social networking site that gives you an insight into the induvidual’s profile on to whom you are about to trust your website with.

gos – The Google Os

Google has extended its hands into everything related to the web. They have a search engine which is the best in the world, they have a free mail service called gmail which is also the best, and better than most paid email services in the world, they have blogger, froogle, a translation tool, adwords, adsense etc etc etc.

For desktop, the last thing I expected them to make was an OS. And that too, an OS which is a derivative of ubuntu. A completely free operating system, if distributed by google, who wouldn’t start using it? And with a team like google’s what software will not be available for this thats available on Windows?

Is this the end of Microsoft? Is that Bill whom the Oracle sees in the near future begging on the streets of Redmond?

gos, which is called the good OS primarily, is a product of Google and a derivative of ubuntu. Google has customized it in a great way. The Live CD has surprised me fairly. Its just a 650 MB ISO. Download it and give it a try.

I will come up with more updates on this soon. The Beauty of Life is here I guess.
