Wrinkling of skin = Ageing

Usually a person’s age is assessed by a look at their face. The skin gives away the age. Baby skin is brand new, and as we grow, the cells start duplicating themselves and since this copying process doesn’t exactly have digital video quality that we use for podcasting, the duplication process reduces quality of the output. Think of the old video cassette systems. When you copy a video over and over again, though the images shown may be recognizeable, the quality goes down considerably. This is the exact same thing that happens with the skin. it starts wrinkling.

There are anti wrinkle treatments that nourishes the skin and makes the copying process better, just like what you used to do in your VCRs, cleaning the recording head and stuff.

How To Choose A Barcode Scanner?

Barcode scanners are light emitting devices that are used to read barcodes. Usually attached to a computer or laptop via PS2 or RS-232, the data collected is stored on a computer for processing or storage. It is now used in many different industries such as retail or production.

They have been on the market for many years now with new versions of barcode scanners available every year. The prices can vary from as low as $50.00 to as high as several thousand dollars. So how do you pick a good barcode scanner?

To answer that question, it is important you know there are 2 major classes of barcode scanners, image-based and laser-based. Image-based barcode scanners use a camera usually embedded in a barcode scanner. The camera will capture the images and then processed by complex image techniques to decode the barcodes. Laser-based barcode scanners uses mirrors and lenses to read the barcodes.

Laser barcode scanners are usually more expensive than image-based scanners. They have their own pros and cons. An image-based barcode scanner do not have internal movable parts therefore are more resistant to drops or knocks than laser barcode scanners. Also, image-based barcode scanners have a shorter scanning distance (4 to 10 inches) compared to laser barcode scanners. On the other hand, laser scanners are more prone to wear and tear due to their lenses. They not only have a longer scanning distance (up to 24 inches) but also are able to scan from a wider angle from the barcode.

Be aware that the scanning distance for both image-based and laser barcode scanners have already improved dramatically over the years and I wouldn’t be surprised if a barcode manufacturer claims an image-based scanner has a scanning distance of 24 inches.

Here are some questions you need to ask yourself before getting a barcode scanner. The size of scanner required? Type of environment the barcode scanner will be using (outdoors, shop, warehouse)? The scanning distance required? Are they to be used hands free or hand-held? Your budget?

So my suggestion is if you need a barcode scanner for long range scanning, get a laser barcode scanner. For short range scanning, use an image-based barcode scanner such as a CCD barcode scanner. The environment as I asked earlier also plays an important part. If the barcode scanner is being used outdoors or in rugged environments where it is expected to take a drop or knock or two, then it is best to get an image-based barcode scanner. If it were for example being used in a retail shop, then a laser barcode scanner would be the best choice.

There are such a wide variety of barcode scanners available that I just can’t explain completely in this article. If you are in doubt, consult the barcode manufacturers such as symbol or metrologic who have sales consultants who are able to do an analysis of the type of barcode scanner needed by your business.

Server Grids

The trend of hosting multiple sites on one server has gone, and right now it is in fashion to host one site on several servers. Well, sites that have traffic or a lot of content ofcourse. Take for example an image gallery that has got a lot of images, which is updated automatically from several websites onthe web. Did you knwo that hosting images or content on your site giving proper credits to the copyright owners of the images or by linking to them is never illegal?

So, if you get an idea to start a site like that, you can never do with just 1 server. You will become someone like flikr, attract images from everywhere, and put them on automated image galleries, and this way traffic will automatically come over to your website, and with that traffic you could make a lot of money selling ads and stuff.

This is why today you might see people ordering 10s and 100s of servers all at one go with the datacenters at good discounted rates, and network them internally to make them into a grid, or make them into one single server with loads of processor resources memory and disk drive space. Some people say that if you make a grid out of 2 P4 processor computers, you will get the power of 2^n = 2^2 = 4 computers. That way if you make a grid out of 128 computers, then the power that you would be able to derive would be of 340282366920938463463374607431768211456 computers. Maybe thats how Wikipedia is so powerful and fast though it is the 2nd website after google that receives the most number of visitors. But is this calculation correct? Thats a very large number, and if someone wants computing power why dont they just rely on this and why do people go for mainframes and stuff?

Adsense or Adbrite

I prefer adbrite these days on sites where there is a lot of traffic. Cos adbrite pays you for impressions while adsnese pays you only for clicks. Google keeps all the money that it charges its clients for impressions for itself while adbrite shares it with you. It has to be shared, as after all, the ads are being displayed on your site.

If you have about 1000 visits a day and if about 10 people manage to click on an ad, you could make about $5 a day, and if the same 1000 visitors give you some 10,000 pageviews, even if they dont click on an ad, you will get about $2 for the impressions per day from adbrite. And if they click on something, you will get more money. Apart from this, adbrite gives you a few other options such as monetizing on the images that you might have on your site, and highlighting keywords on your posts and making them into links, and displaying full page ads. All these add value to the revenue that you generate.

So if you have a site that you have purely made to monetize, I would recommend that you use adbrite, and use adsense only in places where you think there will be more clicks than impressions
