Gmail Updates

I woke up in the morning, and the first thing that I always do when I get is up turn on my computer or laptop and only after that go wash my face, and come back to see the computer booted and i login and check my mails first. The mails are my life line, 2nd to mobile phones.

But Im not with mobile phones these days much. Not talking a lot, and I have asked everyone to mail me only, and not to bug me over phone. Im on vacation for God’s sake.

So, this morning when I logged into my gmail account, I noticed a few changes. Since im into various activities, and my gmail is the only contact point for all, I guess I should be the only user of gmail having the largest number of message filters, about 250 of them, and about 40 labels on the sides, where the important mails get filtered into and skip the inbox, and unwanted mails such as jaxter invitations, orkut friend requests everything goes into the trash can automatically, and never make it to the inbox.

This monring, I saw that the labels had a small box on their right side, and when I opened mails from these labels, the name of the label appeared below the subject of the mail, and when I clicked on it, it just took me to the page where all mails in that label were listed.

Then when I clicked on the box on the right of the label in the left menu of the mail, it gave me options to color the label, and when I chose a color to the label, in the all mail view, all labels were highlighted with the color that I had chosen, and it made it a lot more easier to spot the mails. Earlier, thanks to my bad eye sight, I had to look closely to read what the label is. Now, that part has become easier. Reading the subject line of the from address has nto been a problem for me yet.

And, after all these, google is still in beta.

Time Management

Time is money, Money comes from productivity, which means, productivity should be done with time in mind. A work that needs to be done within 1 hour shouldnt be given 1 day which would result in complete wastage of time, money and energy. If you have got anything at all to do with production, that comes with a deadline for delivery to the client, without a bit of time management things would be a lot difficult, and your costs will go above what you actually charge your client in manpower and other resource consumption, and you naturally cant bill your client for your lack of time management.

After college, you start your real career. Though you consider as choosing the streem in college is the beginning of your career, the college is timebound. The real career begins when you start working. The job industry is highly risky, if you dont give yourself sufficient developments and improvemtns, you would become stagnant, and you will find that you are not moving ahead in the ladder. You need to set your career goals properly if you want to see yourself climbing up the ladder and dont want to be seen overtaken by your former collegues.

A man has to do few things in his own life. Settle down, buy a few cars, one or 2 houses, invest some money here and there, build a fund for kids education, and plan your retirement. If you dont plan these things, life would be hell, and your kids would loose a lot. You should manage your life, plan things and do some personal goal setting and make sure that you do live happily ever after, and that your kids prosper after you, ahd make sure that they do get what they deserve when they are growing up before they become independent.

Web 2.0 Service Reviews

There are lots and lots of Web 2.0 services budding these days, and they are all going thru their own promotional strategies, and at times we dont get any alerts of these new services, and if we miss out that is something useful for us, we are the loosers.

That made me look around for blogs that I can put up on my rss reader where I could get updates, and I found a co blogger, who writes a cool looking review site, and apart from just web 2.0, the site also reviews financial services, travel services, real estate, shops, and offers a good range of toolboxes.

If you got anything at all on your feed reader, you should have this site in there. and it would do you good.

And my feed hunt still continues.

Safari

Safari is a browser that was being used by Apple Mac, and they had released the windows version recently. Though I hate windows badly, I decided to install Windows on my laptop and install safari and give it a try. My laptop is not doing much work these days than just acting as a platform for me to try out new operating systems and software.

2 Hours past installation of Windows, spyware crept in. I dont know which site I opened, I dont know what happened at all, but spyware was there, and I stopped using it. Then I downloaded and installed safari, and it seems to be a very cool browser.

Certain sites did say that they think that my signup with them was a bot, as they did not recognize the browser. And the browser doesnt have a password rembering feature. The spell check is good. And it is quite fast. And it is a very welcome change from firefox. I dont think it is firefox based, and hope that Im not wrong. No time to research on that.

And safari doesnt look vulnerable to spyware since it doesnt support addons.

Over all, it does give a good browsing experience, and I guess I need to check out if it works well on Wine in Linux.
