I have been using the internet almost every day for the past 9 years, and I have been making my living with it. And I know how to stay safe without having to take any chances. Let me tell you.

Dont use Windows if you want to stay safe on the internet. You will be attacked by spyware, adware and trojan horses if you visit one illegal site. Have a dual boot atleast, and use linux to browse and windows for your other applications.

If you use windows, use a very good spyware detector, and an anti virus software such as Norton. This would ofcourse slow down your system very badly, but atleast you would be safe. If you dont want your system to be slowed down, use linux. Make sure that you keep your virus definitions up to date.

Dont click on any stupid link that you see. Use gmail, google apps, or a good spam filter enabled local mail client such as thunderbird to filter out spam. Even if a spam mail makes it into your inbox, be wise enough to recognize it and delete it rather than clicking on the link and finding out whats inside it. even if tis a html file that you are opening, the html viruses may screw up your browser and make your browser do things to your PC and to the emails that you send.

Keep the security and privacy settings on your browser to the highest level possible. Dont store your passwords in your browser, they might get read.

Dont just visit any site if you want to watch porn, or need a serial number for a pirated software. Ask me and i’ll tell you where to find it without trouble.

Dont download any software from a site that is not trusted. Porn sites usually give you a software thats called a dialer, and when you run it, thats the last that you would be seeing of your system, and if you are not smart enough to un plug the network cable from your computers rear soon enough, you will loose your privacy policy.

Install port monitors. You will get alerts if data is coming in or going out, and where it is going to or coming from.

Take all these trouble in windows, or just use linux. None of these problems ever occur in linux. No virus, no spyware no nothing. Even html virus can do nothing to firefox on linux.

Windows cannot run without an anti virus software. Particularly if your Windows PC is connected to the Internet, and you just visit websits out of the blue, install software like smileycentral, you are prone to get infected by malware and trojans. If you dont want your computer to get infected and your data be lost, you definitely need a virus scanner, or you should be using linux.

If you are using a windows PC, I recommend Avast. Norton is supposed to be the best of them all, but they cost you a lot of money. For a home PC, avast has got a free edition that comes with a free licnesekey which you cna install and use the software for about a year, and after the licens eexpires, you just need to reapply. Its as simple as that.

Today, after my lappy recovered with a new installation of windows, the first thing that I installed was Avast Home Edition, and when I tried to install a driver that I had stored away in a memory card long ago, I found that it was infected, and thats how my PC got infected the first day itself. Miraculously avast cured that file, and I have installed the driver and the lappy is working perfectly. And it comes with the best price. Its free!.

It appears that Linux and Mac are no harder than Windows, and that they too are prone to viruses. It is just that about 90% of the world’s PCs are run by windows, and that the hackers have no fun in hacking the remaining 10% of the PCs of the world.

The number of viruses in Linux are limited. And they too seem to be simple viruses, not any more complicated than the ones that are attacking windows. People these days use Linux since there are not many viruses that attack linux, and the viruses that are out there ready to fuck windows pcs will do no harm to linux.

Mac holds a very small percentage of the PCs in the world, and no one has to fear about it getting hacked as long as it doesnt become popular and take a bigger market share. Though about 80% of the servers are on Linux, there is nothing there for the virus writers to write about in there, as everything there would be web based programs, and what ever you do there would be called malware, and I have had a good number of malware attacks on the files that I have hosted on my linux servers as well as have had a 1 very big hacking incedint too on my linux servers.

The only good thing is that Linux and Mac are stable, and they dont get bugged easily or crash as often as windows. Open source people are just being noisy, and as long as the windows PC is not infected, and has got 2 or 3 virus scanners active at all times, you are safe. The only problem is that the speed of the system will go down by about 80%. So what? You still have got about 20%, get one more processor if required, and you can boast that you are running Windwos on a dual processor system.

Whats the best way to prevent spam? Dont let the spammers guess your email id. I am sure that email ids of this sort at very rare. Yes, Ravi.MS at Ravi.MS is my new mail address.

I bought the domain name just now from godaddy.com, and .ms is a cctld, and the registrar of the domain name is adamsnames.com, and I can see how effecient their service is. I guess I need to wait for about 48 hours for the domain to propagate and point to my server. The domain should work, I spent bloody 35 USD to get this domain.

Once it is propagated, I guess it should be fine. And, I have found the easiest way to point a domain in cpanel to be pointed to google apps. I never bothered to check it all these days, thought I boast that Im a master of cpanel. Just click on mail, and modify the MX, record, and you dont have to do a thing in the dns zone of the domain name.

Well, I have done all that, and the mails should start working soon as the domain is pointed to the server, and I have not yet decided on what to put up on the site. Another blog where I write bullshit? Or maybe a joomla site that shows off photos videos and stuff.
