Electricity was invented long but to produce it in heavy scale with huge alternators having equally huge prime mover sources was not done untill very recently, not over 100 years ago. And this discovery lead to a lot of things. The development of science is itself a boon of the electricity. The Large Hadron Collider would not even have been a possibility, or wouldn’t even have made it to the drawing boards if there were no electricity. Computers come next ofcourse.
These days people watch TV to get entertained, but in olden days, aristocrats used to ride on their horses sitting on english saddles carefully placed on horse backs. But now the technology has grown to make protons travel through tunnels near the speed of light.
